I am already cringing, imagining some of the people who are going to come into the store tomorrow just because they want someone from $COMPANY in front of them when they complain about $COMPANY releasing new computers a few months ago, and then the new computers with the faster cores today.

I can totally see it. You see, it doesn't matter that we didn't know beans about it before (and they know it.) It doesn't matter that we didn't set policy. The first things out of their mouths in the first minute of their rant will be, 'I know you don't set policy for the company, and I know you didn't know about it, but...' and they will then proceed to [attempt] to tear you down completely

You haven't gone through a holiday season with these people! They're nice and friendly one moment then turn around and turn into raging hellbeasts! They've got hearts of black ice and poison tongues and they thrive on causing despair! Fear them, for they are convinced that they are the center of the universe and can make you do what they want with their rage and anger! It's like it's an island full of preadolescent, wannabe-Sith!

*sigh*

I love working for $STORE, but the community we work in can totally use some selective nuking. Or at least classes in, I don't know, Basic 'You Are Not The Only Thinking Feeling Person In The World' 101.

Dude, you just totally echoed the rant I put up in my journal. Been working on that one since before lunch.

Don't get me wrong, I love working for $COMPANY as well, but there are days... I can't even imagine what it's like for you up close and personal.

Take care, dude.

Like with you, there are days.

We always always always have to be nice and polite even when the customer is being a total ass. I went on about this a few days ago, that this is ultimately just hurting us: it's giving the WORST customers the idea that they can ride roughshod over us, so of course they tell their friends, 'Just go and make a scene and you'll get what you want!' There HAS to be a way to be polite but firm; to be able to give the Last Word in Customer Service without being their [nonconsensual] buttsex toys.

God, I know how you feel - though at least, like [livejournal.com profile] evilbenfranklin, I get the cold insulation of a headset and usually a few thousand miles between me and the customer.

I remember people bitching about that to tech support back when I was in my desktop days at Dell. My condolences if you do get a wave of jerks like that.
