Okay, first up: Do not go into this movie thinking it will be anything other than what it says it is. This is an action movie. Remember the most recent xkcd? This movie doesn't even have the 30 seconds of exposition. Hardly two minutes go by in this movie without someone shooting at someone else, which doesn't leave much time for exposition. Even the obligatory love scene had guns 'n shootin'. Everything is so over the top that it's like real life anime. There was barely the shreddiest scrap of plot, enough government/plutocrat conspiracy to get Jon's attention, and everything else was sheer, unadulterated shoot-em-up. Paul Giamatti's character absolutely devoured the scenery.

So. Monica Belucci was quite yum. That being said, there were a few times in the movie where I thought, 'Geez, this is pretty creepy,' as far as on-screen treatment of women went. A couple of 'refrigerator' moments. So I can't really say that this was the perfect mindless action film. Thinking (maybe too much) about it, actually, this is pretty much the defining action movie for our current society... which, I have to admit, isn't saying much.

Y'all know that song, 'I need a hero?' We need a heroine, one that isn't there to be the sex object of a creepy villain or such. Where's Michelle Yeoh, Zoe Bell, Karen Mok, and the rest when you need them?

That's exactly what I was thinking exactly two minutes into the film. =)

If you want to see a good movie with a kickass female heroine (sort of, because she's actually a criminal) I highly reccomend Montana. It's hard to find, but worth watching.

It's kind of Wierd that Paul Giamatti would be involved in a movie like that. Still, his range has been evolving. I recently saw him in The Illusionist, where he played an inspector in Vienna, which was incredibly well done on his part. Of course, I'm a Giamatti fan, so. ;)
