Wow, a bit of time without any updates. The past week has been a bit busy and right now I'm trudging through some more training materials so I'm going to keep this kind of short.

The training is going swimmingly well, and it's quite nice here. I mean, I actually do miss the foot of snow that's hitting home. I like snow and I don't mind getting snowed in. It's actually quite lovely and it would be one thing that I would miss. More on this later.

The training has been fairly comprehensive but it's relatively laid-back. We know the stuff, we're getting through it well, so we're not in any major sort of crunch mode except for the two tests coming up this week. There's only been a handful of emotional moments here: One about how much I'm not looking forward to going back to deal with insane/postadolescent infant customers at $STORE when I get home; another about the usual February 14th angst, multiplied by what happened a year ago that day; and also by the fact that it just feels better out here than it does in New York. To the point where, a few years down the road, when I've become completely fed up with being "Jon, Destroyer of Holidays and Assassin of Joy, Doormat to the Almighty Corporatist Consumer," I'm going to try to transfer to $COMPANY's Engineering or Retail Training divisions... which would mean moving out here. Which is one part scary and one part worrisome. ANd, well... something I told myself I'd never want to do, which is to say, move to CA. (Sudden image in my head of Arnold S. going 'Yoo know yoo vant to moooove ooootah heah!' Yack!)

And I know I wanted to go into game animation and modelling. I haven't completely given that up. But considering my absolutely stellar luck in getting such a job over the course of the past year and a half... that's not going to happen anytime soon. So, maybe the stopgap measure is becoming a bit more involved and expansive... but honestly, I love my job, I like working for $COMPANY, it's just the Staten Island "culture of entitlement" and nearly limitless wells of poisonous bile from which the customers seem able to draw from that I can do without.

Anyway, the MP3 player has gone from Red vs. Blue to Don Henley's Boys of Summer and Stratovarius's Cold Winter Nights and Buggles' Video Killed The Radio Star and this is making Jon a maudlin panda. More later -- probably after the test Tuesday -- and I'll see if I can't get in a spot of writing or Darth Nukus commentary. pax

I've been to enough schools, I think. =) Right now, I need to either get off my keister and do something as far as employment goes, or keep trying and hope someone takes me in based on my demo reel. Since that doesn't look likely anytime soon -- and, besides, I'm rather enjoying the tech part of this job! -- I'll be taking a pause -- but not an escape -- from the field of animation and computer modelling.

Fine then!

But yeah, it was whimsy. I'm sure you'd rather make money right now than spend it.
