I'm rather incensed right now. I received a letter today, which notified me of a 'second property tax rebate.' It was being issued by 'the Mayor and the City Council,' as a way of 'saying thank you for sticking with New York in these difficult times.' Or something to that effect.

While I'm grateful for the rebate -- if I can ever get it in a form that the estate can make use of, that is -- at this point in time, so close to the elections, it is nothing less than a bribery attempt. It's Bloomberg trying to tell everyone to vote for him because he's giving you MONEY. You want money, right? We all do. Re-elect Bloomberg (nevermind that he tried to bankrupt the city already) and he'll give you MONEY!

Maybe I'm cynical, but that's really all I can see that this is. The timing of it, the wording of the letter... it's all rubbing me the wrong way. Maybe they intended it to really be a thank-you to property owners. But it came off all wrong to me.

The sad thing is that if he's not re-elected, or even if he is and reaches the end of his next term, he'll just go back to his cushy million-dollar-income job.

Anyway. Not much else going on. More of the same. More later. Pax.

Makes you wonder about the extreme reaction to the bomb threat too, eh?

"The announcement sparked behind-the-scenes jostling with security officials in Washington, who downplayed the threat and suggested that Mayor Michael Bloomberg may have overreacted."
