After learning that mom's current condition is caused by hydrocephalis, the doctors have arranged for a shunt to be implanted this week. pre-op examination will be this tuesday, then Thursday she will go in for the procedure itself, and will stay overnight. So far it seems pretty straightforward. I have very little doubt that the procedure will go just fine. There doesn't appear to be anything untoward that could happen. It's a procedure that's done all the time.

So why do I keep getting the feeling that there's more danger to this than I see, and that I'm not getting the full story from people? :(

I think Collie13 has it right on this one.

If there was more, the Doctors involved would say as much. At least, none of the Doctors I've ever spoken to have been the sort to hide any such details.
