In reference to the recent brouhahah over Penny Arcade's rather... different take on the old popcult icon "Strawberry Shortcake," (which was actually a parody of American McGee, which could get them into some trouble,) a slashdot commentator made mention of a court case, Mattel, Inc. v. MCA Records, Inc. With reference to the rhetorical hyperbole both sides were publically slinging at each other, the court had this to say:

"The parties are advised to chill."

You know, normally I'm in favor of formal language in something like a court case, but this case was so absurd that it deserved a somewhat absurd response. =) More than that, it is certainly good advice to many people who are undertaking the legal shennanigans being brought to court these days. Such as but not limited to: the RIAA, the MPAA, American Greetings, Amazon.com.

I can see this being some kind of catchphrase. =) For some reason it's making me laugh every time I read it. Sort of like reading Chaucer and suddenly coming upon the line, 'And thyne brokethe wynde did hye.' Or something to that effect, it was one of the Canterbury Tales, one of the ones they don't normally translate into Modern English for the high-schoolers but which college professors seem to take unnatural glee in translating for their students.

In animation news, I have scaled up the Library of Dat and dropped Susan into it, and after adding some environmental fog and bumping the light intensities up to som insanely high numbers, I must say that despite some issues with scaling and anisotropic reflections ('anisotropic' anything appears to be very bad to render with, adding whole minutes to the render-time) it now looks like I am ready to properly fix up some last-hour modelling issues, bind the skeleton to the skin, and begin animating. And just in time, too. At this rate, with about 10 minutes per frame on a decent computer at school, I'm looking at about three or four days of straight of render-time. I believe I now know why some visual effects shots in movies look cheesy: they were running out of render-time. =)

Reading [livejournal.com profile] tekenduis' latest LJ entry, where she says that it's snowing in Calgary, I really can't say that it makes me not want to go to Canada, after all. Heck, considering that I was almost broiled alive when I sat in my car on the way home from school today, I think I might welcome it. And it's a Jeep, so I got the four-wheel drive bit covered!
