caraig: (Vitriol)

Rantography

First, a note about the picture: it's more-or-less temporary. I was getting tired of seeing a big blank space next to my name! For the time being, that's the symbol I'm using for standard run-of-the-mill entries. In the future I'll be making smaller entries with more subject-specific themes. People interested in alchemy might recognize it as the seal describing vitriol. Despite that, it doesn't necessarily mean that every entry with that icon is going to be full of flames! =) This one, however, might be.

By the way, just to get this off my chest: Orrin Hatch is a blathering idiot. He wins the 'Shooting off my mouth with no idea of what I'm talking about' award. I welcome Sen. Hatch's response as per proposed federal regulation that states any criticism posted on a web site must allow a response by the criticized party.

Also in a side-note: A "meaning of your LJ name" applet thingy has been appearing in peoples' blogs lately. I would post mine, but some of it is just really... no, REALLY *wrong* that I really shouldn't. =) I will say this, though: when do I win my free Coke?

So I nervously realize today that I haven't paid my bills yet. I bounce onto the computer rip open the envelopes with my teeth (no, not really) and fire up Quicken. That's when I notice the little slip of paper Sprint thoughtfully included in my cellphone bill, saying that they're jacking up my bill so they can defray costs for the wireless number pooling and portability that the Federal government just mandated.

Thanks a frickin' lot, guys! Corporate bastards, you don't HAVE to pass this cost on to us, oh, no, but it gives you the excuse to tack it onto our bills so your bloody bottom line is still safe and sound. This is why the phone companies can get away with murder, they can just pass the cost on to us customers. You know, Reader, sometimes I think the Western concept of capitalism really is a morally bankrupt system. Though I can't say that most of other systems out there are any better. It's the whole thing about 'rational behavior' and the way capitalism totally screws over the Prisoner's Dilemma that gets to me. The Bottom Line is All Powerful. Ave the Bottom Line! Mortuiti te salutum!

There now. I feel better. =)

Not much else has been happening. Modelling for Final Project Take 2 is almost done, then I can worry about texturing. Fortunately, I only have a bit of rigging and animating to worry about. THis should turn out to be a pretty darn good demo reel. I'm billing it as a 'Game Cinematics and In-Game Demo Reel.' Which means, HIRE ME and i'll work on your FMV cutscenes and/or your gameplay!

Those of you who've followed my LJ for a while know that I've seen myself as terminally lonely. I know how frustrating it can get to hear me harp on that so much, so I'm sorry. I'll try not to make any more mention of it here, since there are people who have much more right to say that than I, and besides, there's nothing that anyone can really do about it. If, of course, I'm wrong and there's something someone CAN do about it, please feel free to let me know, phone lines are open and operators are standing by. =) Well... my phone has an answering machine and I check my e-mail regularly, at least....

By the way, the girl I've been trying to get up the nerve to approach? Yes, she has a boyfriend. This does not bother me, really, since the main thing I wanted was to just approach her, and see what happened from there, either friendship or something more. Plus, I knew that a girl like that would have already had proposals up to her ears. (Considering that she's fairly tall, that's a lot of proposals.) But it does make me irritated and angry and screaming mad, because I COULD have found this out six months ago IF I'd just been less shy and timid, and I wouldn't be feeling like this happens every time I'm interested in someone. Well, maybe I'd still be feeling that, but I wouldn't be feeling that while doing Final Project. Sometimes I hate this world and the whole concept of 'irony.'

But, let that be the last said on that subject. Nobody really wants to hear it.

Anyway! Not much, as usual, going on. Listening to insanely bouncy J-pop because it actually is somewhat cheery and because it makes decent main titles music. Things are going pretty swimmingly with the final project and I'm rather pleased with it. This weekend, after a few tweeks to Project Take One I'll be back to rendering. I haven't yet dropped the BOMB on THEM yet (see my previous-to-last post) but I think they're starting to expire anyway. Sorry, little fellas, but you got into my evolutionary niche. You wouldn't want to spend much time where you are now, anyway; you don't know where I've been. =)

Just in case they don't go away, anybody have a reeeeeeelly tiny atomic bomb they can spare? Like, a yield of a couple hundred nanotons? I promise to file an Environmental Impact Statement before using it.

Non-Sequitor Man Strikes Again!: I wonder if an EIS for the Trinity tests was filed? That must be one heck of a piece of history! Uh, that is, if there even was a requirement for EIS's back then.
