Jan. 27th, 2005 12:30 amAs some of you know, Mom's condition is... hard to say. yesterday morning the hospital and Mom's doctor called us to say she had become unresponsive. When we went to see her, we found this meant delirious, almost feverish though she didn't have a fever. She seemed to drift in and out of semiconsciousness and couldn't focus on anything. Her GP doctor, the one who said she had 'weeks' to live back in, I think, October or November, decreed that Mom was 'approaching the end of her road.' The doctors really couldn't say much about what was happening.
Today we managed to talk to the neurologist. While her condition is certainly not 'normal,' he doesn't seem to find it unexpected. He noted that between her brain swelling from the radiation treatment, the brain lesion material that was melted by the radiation treatment, a condition known as adema caused by cancer and by treatment of same in which the cells 'leak' water, and her already-existing hydrocephalis... it's mostly a matter of draining all that out of her brain which already has drainage problems. Which, interestingly, is strongly aided by the shunt which was just put in. So, in the doctor's words, she's already getting the maximal treatment we can possibly hope for. We don't really know if she'll recover from this, but given time and a touch of luck, she has good chances of pulling through, especially since her current condition is not caused directly by her cancer.
My opinions on Mom's doctor and her proclaimation of Mom's imminent death, I have already stated in a previous post. Those of you who haven't read it can imagine how I feel in that regard.
Anyway, this is not neccessarilly GREAT news, but it is BETTER news, and we're all a bit relieved that this is, again, not something that's going to kill her without a thing to be done or a clue as to what's going on.
Well, what else.... I wanted to do some art this weekend but couldn't get the gumption up. I'll be trying at it tomorrow, I've an idea or two of what I'd like to do. Also added a new bit ofwriting for thine perusal. If you don't like Star Wars feel free to give it a pass. And even if you do like Star Wars, it's a divergent universe so you might not like it anyway. Peer at the author's notes. Enjoy! and comment, feel free.
Not much else to go on about, so I think I'll wrap this up and begin to think about bed. It's been a kind of emotional-roller-coaster day. We're getting some snow tonight so I may have to perform some more of that Jeep Kune Do on the road to the hospital tomorrow. Pax.
