Weekend Update!
Oct. 30th, 2005 07:49 pmSo! Much happening since and before the last entry, so I have a lot to babble on about and it just might spill over into further entries.
Blather The First: OMGenbu! Staten Island continues to surprise me, even ten years after being here. We discovered that the SI Botanical Garden not only has a lovely outdoor cafe, but it also has a recreation of a Chinese scholar's garden. It's gorgeous! Any of you who happen to come to New York, I will shanghai and drag there, this I promise. I wish I could post pictures, but the only two pictures that my camera phone managed to take are kind of blah. They do not do justice to the place. It was so very well worth going to.
Blather The Second: If you have not seen Genshiken then you should. I recommend it as being a silly, light-hearted look inside the otaku mind. A lot of what I like about it is that all the characters are likable. Sure, they're otaku stereotypes, but they're not obnoxious. Maybe this isn't entirely true to life, but it certainly makes the anime more than bearable to watch, even as it pokes light-hearted fun at otaku. I found it interesting in another way, too: It helps to underline much of the differences between Japanese and Western cultures. I won't go into it now; some of these differences are already well known. P.S. ... The Mushroom Girl disturbs the hells out of me.
Blather The Third: Wallace and Gromit! Lots and lots of fun! If you are looking for a nice fun movie to watch with significant others, with kids, or with like-minded folks, W&G is a good choice, and go see it in a matinee.
Not much else going on. I rented a couple of games which I'll discuss in a later post. For now, it's just waiting on what happens at work tomorrow.
Pax.
