Current Stuff
Jul. 4th, 2005 03:21 pmSo, not much going on at the moment. Went to brother's house for Independence Day. We saw War of the Worlds which was a... well, how to put it? Visually pretty good. Character-wise... could have been better. While the characters did grow and develop somewhat, they didn't really *improve* any by way of the events. No, not even Tom Cruise's character. I still didn't feel much sympathy for him by the time the movie ended. Boy, did that little girl have a set of lungs, or what? Oh, yes... without giving away too many spoilers, even though the movie was Spielbergized (the infamous guns-to-radios transformation in E.T.) the most telling change was the fate of Tim Robert's character, who seemed to be a blend of the priest and artilleryman from H.G. Well's original story. There's something cynical and sad about that whole incident. (And on a slightly lighter note, did anyone else think of Pulp Fiction while that door was closing behind Tom Cruise's character...?) Overall, a kind of disappointing film, though the visuals of the tripods were sufficiently awe-inspiring and scary, even if the way the aliens came to our world made NO. SENSE. WHATSOEVER. Ahem. Wait for rental. In fact, wait for when it comes off the New Release shelf. See Batman Begins instead.
Modelling is coming along slowly. And no significant responses whatsoever from any of the companies I've sent resumes to. I've even sent resumes to the Apple Store opening in Staten Island and Geek Squad. NO response. Am I really that unmarketable? Well, we'll see what the temp agency has. What a sorry state of affairs, you know? Here I am, three years military service, four years technical employment, one and a half years of animation training, and I can't get a godsforsaken job in anything like a reasonable amount of time. Eh, enough grousing, I'm sure that'll trigger some people to slap me down and say something to the effect of 'shut up.'
One odd turn: As a favor, I'm letting someone stay over in the house for a couple of months, helping to pay the expenses, while they network and job-hunt in the theater district in Manhattan, until the end of August. Of course if I get a job in the far corner of the world that's going to change things pretty dramatically, but for the time being it should be relatively stable. They're arriving Wednesday night. It's the first time I've had a room-mate, or rather a house-mate, since college and for the most part I've come to be used to living on my own. Well see how it goes. If nothing else, it's going to help pay the bills.
Let's see, what else.... The estate lawyer is going on vacation so there'll be a delay in getting the petition to the courts, but nothing major. That should go smoothly.
Nothing else going on. I got nothin'. Anyway, more later, as always. Pax
