Movies and Dreams
Aug. 13th, 2004 08:53 pmWent to see AVP today -- that's Alien versus Predator if you didn't know. Not a bad film all in all. I mean, you don't go see it if you want anything other than the movie geeks have been clamoring for ever since they saw a Gigeresque alien skull in Predator 2. It was a nice embellishment to the canon of both franchises, and while the plotline wasn't a surprise it wasn't exactly blatantly obvious from the start. There were some nice touches, like Bishop's little idle "habit" at his desk aboard the icebreaker, and of course the whole thing with Antarctica. (Anyone else remember the line from Alien? "Antarctica Control, this is the Nostromo...." Though it's also a nice tip of the hat to The Thing.) There were some likable characters which, well.... Let's not go there to give away too much. So my recommendation is, as usual, see it in matinee unless you're going with a group of like-minded individuals, in which case an evening showing probably won't disappoint. You may have to clobber someone who does Hudson or Dutch quotes, though.
Oh, I should talk about something I keep intimating about but never actually talk about. ( About those dreams.... )
That's about it for now. Pax!
